My Story
I'm taking part in Moorfields Eye Charity's epic 10th anniversary Eye to Eye walk.
Moorfields is a cause close to my families heart. They believe that peoples sight matters, just like me.
Having been supported and cared for directly by the wonderful doctors at the Richmond Desmond Children’s Eye Centre within Moorfields Eye Hospital, I know firsthand just how much your donations are appreciated.
That is why I'm taking on this challenge to walk 5 miles through the city of London and pass some amazing historic landmarks along the way. Hopefully seeing some familier faces along the way too.
I am hoping this will be the first of many fundraising challenges and activities I will be taking on, to try and make a dent into the numerous ways Moorfields has supported me and given hope for a bright and independent future.
A little bit about me… I was diagnosed at 10 weeks old with a congenital brain condition called Septo-optic dysplasia. A life changing and life-threatening condition which I live with on a day-to-day basis. One of the many consequences is that I have Optic nerve hypoplasia, Nystagmus and Strabismus, which means I am severely visually impaired. My parents were told upon diagnosis to be prepared that I may never walk/talk or go to mainstream school due to the severity of the condition, but with the support of my family and the wonderful team at Moorfields, I am doing well at school, and determined to thrive even further.
That's why Moorfields fund life-changing eye research, to deepen our understanding of eye disease and help bring new treatments to patients faster than ever before.
Ultimately, everything they do aims to make a difference to the lives of people with sight loss - because they and I believe that peoples sight matters.
So please dig deep and donate what you can as I take on this challenge alongside by biggest fan (mummy) - every little helps in the fight against sight loss.
Love and thanks,
